Hi again all you honest people out there! My last post Indexing Search Engines?, was a shortish info article about how you shouldn't expect to stay static in the SERPs especially with newish sites due to the more fluid approach the search engines seem to be taking with their indeces.
Well, that aside, many people are still floundering around trying to figure out how to make some decent money via the of the green stuff!
Well, one of the not so well kept secrets to the whole ethos of the easiest way of making money online is really to stay out of the MMO arena altogether. Instead, make sure you concentrate on far less competitive niches. While that may sound, to a newcomer to be gobbledygook, it's actually a proven fact and one worth taking note of.
The MMO niche is so saturated with everybody and his dog trying to earn easy money from the Internet that the vast majority (I'm talking 95% plus here) simply are not actually making enough to cover the cost of their cheap hosting account.
The smart money is in the less competitive niches where there is less cash to be made but a heck of a better chance of making it.
So the honest advice for today is to find a few low competition niches where people have a need for something, be it a product or information, then build your sites to target the long tail keywords associated with those niches.
Build relevant, original content on and links to your sites, because that's the only way you're going to get any authority in each of the search engines' index placements, which will send targeted traffic to your site, then put up your ads, be they PPCm affiliate or lead generation and you should start seeing the dollars coming in. Not in great wads, but a steady stream that you can then build upon by targeting more fresh, low competition niches.
While all that's happening and you can see the moolah start to appear in your paypal or bank account, then you can start on the very long term projects of targeting more competitive niches.

Indexing Search Engines?
Following on from that last post A Writer's Incredible Means to Make Money from the Internet, which was a bit of a mouthful, but typical of a freelance writer's way with words, it's time to tun my attention once again to gathering links to boost a site's SERPs authority.
It seems that a certain search engine is tinkering with their algorithms so much that the index is in a constant state of flux. This is probably fine for a casual surfer looking for some information on whatever, but a veritable pain the the rear for a more serious surfer who found a great site yesterday and wants to go back there today but forgot to bookmark it. They go back to the same search engine, type in the same keyword phrase but the site they found yesterday has disappeared!
How annoying must that be!
Well from a marketer's point of view its equally annoying especially if it was your site that particular surfer wants to visit again, maybe to buy something they saw on your site! I can see how that would be a tad annoying!
So for the one part, the search engines fluctuating index might be a good way to deal with spammers who are for ever trying to flood their index with crap sites that are full of ads and nothing else of value. For another part it can frustrate surfers looking to re-visit sites they found one day that are gone the next for no good reason other than the index is more fluid to frustrate spammers.
And of course for the other part it frustrates honest website owners who are trying to build up a legitimate commercial business online with websites that sell merchandise and provide useful information as well.
While there is no definite proof as to what makes the SE indexes tick exactly, it does appear that older, more established sites are left well and truly alone, while newer sites that are trying to carve out their own equally legitimate businesses are being thrown all over the place like they were no better than spammers themselves!
I would have thought that with the technical expertise and sheer weight of experience and ability available to that certain search engine that they'd have their index fixed to provide both information and commercial sites of legitimacy an equal standing in their index while actually dealing with the thin affiliate or MFA sites accordingly.

A Writer's Incredible Means to Make Money from the Internet
Following on from ny last post Domains vs Free Blogs, I'd like to mention a great way to make money writing.
Writing content for your own websites is a very important part of developing an interesting SEO friendly home where readers can be certain of a good read.
But it doesn't end there. I’d like to extol the virtues of a truly great additional source of income for anyone who is interested in making some cash from writing. That’s a place known as Constant Content.
Constant Content are an article/content brokerage website resembling the popular Associated Content (AC). The difference between the two is that Constant Content accepts written work from writers situated worldwide, whereas AC accepts only writers that live in the United States.
The potential amount of money that can be made from Constant Content are much greater than you would expect to earn from Associated Content. This is chiefly due to the fact that the way of selling your articles is rather different for each company.
Associated Content will take your article and pay you straight away for it. The amount is normally around $5-$7 per 500 word article, although that figure may increase the longer you are a member and the greater the number of articles you submit (which are accepted) to approximately $10 per article. The articles you submit then become the property of Associated Content, which they can then sell on to website owners as “usage” rights. This means they are able to resell each of your articles again and again meaning they are not unique. I guess we all know what Google's take on duplicate content is by now.
Constant Content, on the other hand are rather different. When you submit your article to Constant Content, you state the way you want it to be sold. It can be from a choice of either "usage" (the cheapest), "unique" or "full rights" (the most expensive).
This is so important to know. The majority of content buyers visit Constant Content looking to buy "full rights" articles. This means they become the sole owners of that article and can put their name to it as their own work, which is the main reason why it's the most popular. It is also guaranteed as original and unique content, which further adds to its appeal.
As to earning money, for a 500 word, "full rights" article, the usual fee is around $40. Of this, the author makes 65% ($26), while the remaining 35% is taken as commission and expenses by Constant Content.
Another difference of importance is that Constant Content do not pay you, the author for your article right away as does Associated Content. What happens is that your article remains in your own portfolio on the site and waits for a content buyer to select it. That’s the major downside and one reason why so many potentially accomplished authors drop out. People are often impatient and don't wish to be made to hang around for their article to be sold.
However, for those writers that are prepared to wait, once an article is sold, you get paid by Constant Content at the commencement of each month. This is one way how to earn cash online. Logic dictates that the more articles you store in your portfolio, then the more articles you will sell. Over time, your portfolio will grow and provide you with a ongoing flow of earnings as long as you continue to keep submitting more articles in order to keep it growing. As an author, you will begin to become known by a lot of the frequent content buyers and if they like your work in your portfolio, you might very well be asked to do private work for them, which many of the main authors there do. This can actually become extremely lucrative.
Wouldn't you like to collect $26 for a 500 word article and maybe wait some time for it, than get a paltry $5-7 straight away.

Domains vs Free Blogs
Following on from my last post here Alexa Gaming, where I spoofed the holy grail of gaming your Alexa rank in order to draw advertisers to your blog, I'd like to draw attention to a post I made over at another blog as it is a poignant view on blogging.

Alexa Gaming
Hi again, it's been a while sinc my last post Honest Work, so I thought it woukd be nice to post something useful in here for all those people looking at the possibilities of gaming Alexa, or more correctly gaming your Alexa rank.
Let's face it, most advertisers and would-be sources of revenue for your blog all look very closely at your Alexa rank to see how much traffic your site is attracting, whether its make money online or work from home or another niche altogether. So you can see the importance of having a good Alexa rank to make your site or blog stand out from the rank and file crowd.
But what if your Alexa rank stinks?
Well then you need to do something about making that Alexa rank look a whole lot better than your site really is. To do that you need to be able to game Alexa into fooling it that your site or blog is attracting a whole lot more traffic than it actually is. Basically, you need a good Alexa rank reading in the Alexa toolbar, often known as Sparky, which would-be advertisers and make money sources can see so they can determine that yoru site or blog is getting a shedload of traffic and they will want to pay you top dollar for placing an ad on your blog.
So we have that straight then?
Well, how is that done? How do you game your Alexa rank to make it look like you are really attracting great numbers of traffic to your site?
Hell if I know.
I didn't say I knew how to game your Alexa rank, I just said that if your site was getting crap traffic then you should fix it so that yoru Alexa rank looks beter than it really is. Of course you can't really game your Alexa rank, but you can help it along some by going around all the blogs you like to read and commenting in them with a link back to your site and hope the owner or some of the readers of the comments will come and visit your place.
But then you would be getting better traffic anyway, so yoru Alexa rank will go up naturally.
By the way, don't expect to make money from that rent-a-crowd of bloggers either. You won't.
But that's for anotehr post.

Honest Work
Well, it seems I'm approaching the 100 mark for my assortment of self hosted websites and blogs, free blogs and Squidoo lenses so things are rather hectic as I try to keep on top of them all!
Anyone still reading this blog may notice that I don't get to post in ANY of my blogs with the frequency that I used to, which is a knock-on effect of building up my portfolio and working them all into well stocked sites and blogs.
I've been moving into several different niches in the endless quest for money online, which to be honest is a tough target to hit with so much competition out there. But patience and toil are the two main virtues that will see this honest project through to its logical conclusion.
So stick around and visit my other, more worked on sites and see what's going on these days!

Another New Blog
The Honest Way announces another new blog in the family of money info blogs. This one's called Money Hints (link removed as I no longer own this website), and the domain is the first of the expired domains that I have been looking at and buying.
This first one was my first mistake, actually in that I liked the name as it lends itself nicely to a make money blog, but after I bought it I found out that you can buy expired domains that come with some PR.
So since this purchase, I have bought 3 more domains all with PR6.
I'll post when I take ownership of them and get new blogs up and running on them as well

The Honest Way to Blag a Blog
The Honest Way to blag a blog is to use an almost unused blog to promote another blog!
Well if that sounds strange, it's not and it's perfectly honest!
So this blog was used more often in the past to push some link juice to it's big brother, my main Honest Way site and blog by simply mentioning it in posts and linking to it - like this one is doing right now.
Another use it to give a little something to some of my other free blogs that need a link or two to get them going. So here's some link juice to my other free blogs:

Beware Plagiarism!
Watch out, watch out, there's a thief about!
Content thieving sites are out there stealing your content. They then use it on their own crappy sites that are full of adsense ads. But you can hit back and turn this into your advantage.
In every blog post, make sure you place a few anchor links back to your own blog, like this one to The Honest Way Blog. So that when these low-lives steal your content, they inadvertently give you a free backlink! Even if they delete your signature at the end of each blog post (where you should always include a link to your blog), by placing the links throughout your post, you stand a very good chance of getting a backlink.
And duplicate content?
The search engines accredit your blog with the original post thanks to the time and date stamp of the article, so the plagiarizing sites get hit for having the duplicate content, not you.
So it's one of those things that you can fight fire with fire and have the last laugh.

Honest Way to Make Money
The Honest way to make money is a difficult path to go down.
Why?
Because while people respect honesty and integrity, they don't throw money at it. I've found this to be true since getting involved with internet marketing almost a year ago. While I've made money, it hasn't been a great deal. At the same time, I see others who resort to less than honest tactics to make money do so in much greater amounts than my honest methods.
What does that tell me?
I need to work harder at what I'm doing. The search engines don't help you when you're honest - at least that's the way it seems.
I've been trying to gain a decent page rank for The Honest Way blog so that I can use it to make money the honest way by writing paid reviews and by attracting text ads. But despite attracting a good regular readership, lots of good backlinks and a decent Alexa ranking, Google hasn't lifted that blog off the PR0 floor, so my potential earnings from honest sources is still very limited.
I'm the eternal optimist, however.
I'll simply keep slogging away, writing my ass off to keep the content fresh and interesting over there and call in here every so often to let off steam!

WidgetBucks
I just read in my travels that self-styled top blogger John Chow has unveiled yet another fantastic way to make money online with your blog. It's called WidgetBucks.
I was well impressed by what I read at first, so I went straight over there and signed up! It looks like it could be a desperately needed replacement for either Auction Ads or more importantly Adsense, especially if you are a blogger outside the US.

I was well impressed by what I read at first, so I went straight over there and signed up! It looks like it could be a desperately needed replacement for either Auction Ads or more importantly Adsense, especially if you are a blogger outside the US.

Articles and Content Are the New Kings
Over at The Honest Way I'm still posting regular updates on the blog to keep the momentum going and to try to get Google to see what a great, content packed site it is, so they'll graciously give me some PR.
After all, the word on the street is that Google are still tweaking their algorithm in favour of good quality, content packed sites that offer lots of information and entertainment for their readers.
This means that content is indeed king!
So I've got my finger crossed that all that hard work and writing tons of informational articles into the wee hours of the night will eventually pay off and The Honest Way and it's post-packed blog will get the PR they deserve!

Don't Waste $100 on This Rip Off!
Over at my main blog, The Honest Way, I expose a new rip off that's spreading across the internet marketing world in the form of a "Buy a page on the million dollar wiki site for $100".
The promise is that once you have your page, you will have a ton of traffic flooding to it's doors courtesy of the main high profile site the page is attached to.
Unfortunately, all that will happen is that any traffic your page generates will go to increasing the rank of the hosting site. You will have to generate that traffic yourself - it won't just come to you without any work.
So you might as well create a free blog and do the same thing.
The difference?
$100!

Don't Buy Me A Beer Either!
I've already blogged about this growing trend amongst bloggers who have a small icon with a beer mug or a coffee cup saying something like:
If you like this blog, please donate so I can keep drinking coffee to keep me awake so I can keep writing... or some such nonsense.
Really!
Buy me a beer? Buy me a cafe latte? More like "Got change for a cuppa, guv?" as the tramp standing outside the greasy spoon with his hand out might say to the passing businessman in a suit.
Yep - it's begging. No other word for it.
If you don't want to encourage tramps, you don't give them money, right?
So that's why you'll never see me on any of my blogs asking for handouts - I'm not a beggar, I'm an online businessman who would much prefer to sell you something rather than take money from you for nothing.

An Online Version of QVC?
You are among the first to hear about and potentially profit from this.
Now most of you will have heard of QVC, the cable TV show that advertises stuff and sells it all at bargain prices every day! This show attracts an incredible number of viewers.
Well, imagine a similar thing in the online world.
I just heard about this and was impressed enough to jump right on it.

Blogging With Intent
The whole reason this blog was put up in the first place was to hopefully drive lots of curious visitors to the main website.
Once there, they will be able to see what's going on in terms of new free to read articles, resources and information to help anyone coming into the business of Internet Marketing to get started and do things the right way and at least stand a chance of succeeding in this cut-throat business!
Well it wasn't long before I realised that it made more sense from a traffic and popularity point of view to set up this blog on the main host, which I did. But I didn't delete this one, because I came to the conclusion back then that it would still have some value in terms of helping the main site and its new blog with its traffic flow.
To some extent it has, but I made the mistake of leaving this to stew for a few months with no new entries and that was a shame, because had I kept up with this, it would now be a useful additional source of income from advertising.
Why, well as I mentioned in a previous post, this blog managed to get a PR1 from Google, which, while not a massive accolade was at least better than the blog on the main host ever got. Which meant that any links from here to the main site carried a little more weight and could help with the rating over there.
Well, maybe it will be enough to tip the balance in the right direction - we'll see.
For now, it's still worth keeping this blog fed with new posts because people do read it and will be curious to see the other blogs I author and hopefully learn a whole lot of stuff from my main The Honest Way site!
So if you haven't already been over to see what's new, so there now - you'll be pleasantly surprised!

A Little Honest Info
A short post to mention the recent success of the main site and its blog (and forum).
The Honest Way is getting over 200 visits a day now and most of that is attributed to the blog. The stats have been increasing every month since its inception, so I must be doing something right!
The Alexa rank for the whole site is around 113,000 and falling (lower is good), so that's also good news.
Still haven't picked up a page rank for the blog yet. How this one managed to even get a PR1 baffles me - hardly anything links to it! The Honest Way blog has been collecting back-links from all over the place in the last month or so. Hopefully, when Google next take a good hard look at it, they might give it some PR love!
